Zelda Cavanaugh
Artist Biography:
Born in Pennsylvania, my journey started in funeral service, where I was immersed in intricate, disciplined rituals and absorbed the fundamentals of sculpture, floral arrangements, and lighting. Fascinated by human experiences related to loss and the search for meaning, I initially aimed for psychiatric nursing but shifted to technology due to a deep dislike of the healthcare industry. Two months prior to graduating with a degree in tech comm, I joined IBM, where I nurtured a deep fascination with artificial intelligence. Over the years, my professional journey has been a dynamic expedition, taking me through the corridors of top-tier companies such as IBM, Verizon, Walmart, and the Walt Disney Company. I am currently pursuing a Masters degree in Information Design and Strategy from Northwestern University.
Zelda delves into the intricate interplay of beauty and disfigurement by merging digital imagery, musical theory, psychiatric diagnoses, and literary references. This challenges traditional aesthetic norms and artistic methods. Using the Circle of Fifths in musical theory, each visual element overlays an open-ended song related to the subject. Hand-generated embroidery adds a tactile dimension, fusing the digital with the tangible. The meticulously woven elements create a captivating puzzle, inviting viewers to immerse themselves in their own emotional journey through thoughtful contemplation.
