Artist Biography / Artist Statement:

Born on July 16, 1974, in Bulgaria, Y. Grigorov pursued extensive artistic education, earning degrees in Comic and Narrative Arts (EESI, Angoulême, France), Visual Communications (ESAA, Geneva, Switzerland), Book Illustration (National Academy of Fine Arts, Bulgaria), and Cinema and TV Direction (National Academy for Theatre and Film Arts, Bulgaria).

Grigorov finds inspiration in language, particularly poetry:
"With an ‘artistic gesture,’ I remove the contour of the letters, the common silhouette of each word, and transform them into a free form of color or a mixture of colors. What I keep from the ‘written’ language is only the formal order of the words in the paragraph. After this ‘word-destructive’ action, my work continues with deep observation of the result—until I finally achieve the ability to ‘see’ figurative forms, bodies, and faces, allowing a new and surprising story to emerge from the process."
