Tessey Kuwata
Artist Biography:
At the age of 17, I was at the mercy of my illness, and there were days when I felt confused and nearly despaired.
What I realized during that time was that even in the midst of illness, the power flowing through the human body remained unchanging. Within it, I saw a beautiful expression that seemed to sing a hymn.
I wanted to give shape to an affirmation of human life and sexuality with my own hands. It was at this moment that I decided to become an artist.
Since then, everything I draw ultimately centers on “human.”
These works may appear grotesque at first glance. However, I continue to create, believing that they reflect one truth of being alive.
