Sharon Sampson

Artist Biography:

Sampson is a contemporary South African artist specializing in oil painting and printmaking. As an educator, she has earned a reputation for excellence through her printmaking studio in Illovo, Johannesburg, where numerous South African artists have emerged and grown. In 2015, she created the first South African Fine Art Print Fair (FAP).

"In my practice, I explore space and the way we see and perceive our surroundings within that space. I combine a multitude of techniques in my printmaking process—sometimes incorporating layer upon layer to achieve a sense of depth and space. My oil paintings are more direct, though they also incorporate layering. I pay tribute and homage to nature in my conceptual work and our multifaceted relationship with nature and self, and the intermingling of the two."
