Myriam VĂ©jus

Artist Statement:

Art is an infinite field of exploration. Photography came into my life in 1993 during my 1st year of applied arts in Lyon. It was a passion that I pursued in parallel with my profession as an interior designer, which I began practicing in 1999. In 2018, Le virage. Moving to Guadeloupe. The magic lies outside our comfort zone, three years of photographic wanderings with light and nature as my raw materials.

My curiosity leads me to explore different photographic and artistic techniques, through different series in which nature is the common thread, from the visible to the invisible, the wild soul, the human soul. At the end of 2021, I return to mainland France. My contemporary series "Abrasion," a mixed technique, photography and digital art, is an attempt to break down the spectrum of white light, making the invisible visible. A colorist's eye, inspired by the sensitivity of the Fauvist school and the technicality of Newton.

My "Dark Light" series, created in 2021, is an immersion in the tropical forest of Guadeloupe National Park, FWI. Plants in monochrome, when light and shadow become matter. These two series are available as four-color prints on transparent plexiglass.

My animal series "Endangered Species" is committed to and supports the Tonga Terre d'Accueil association, a refuge for wild animals. Its artistic expression is inspired by the Caravaggesque school.
