MJ Cooper is a self taught artist. She was once blind for six months due to severe photophobia, a side effect from viral meningitis that also left her with neurological damage. MJ was able to gain her sight back after intense treatment at Cleveland Clinic.

Before and during creating, MJ meditates and listens to music to help her enter her desired mindset. Her style depends on the mental or emotional space she’s in. She uses a variety of techniques and tools. She is known for using bold colors, layers, and creating textured artworks. She uses spatulas, as well as experimenting with round brushes, and sponges. She mostly paints with acrylic, but has recently been fallen in love with oil paint and cold wax.

She is proud to have received a 2021 VSA Emerging Artist Excellence Award from The Kennedy Center in Washington, D.C., and have her artwork exhibited in galleries in Milan, Spain and Luxembourg.
