Mari Ratia

Artist Biography:

Maria Carmen Ratia, known in her workshop as Mari Ratia, is a self-taught textile artist. Drawing, colors, and fabrics have been her passion and have always been an important part of her life. She vividly remembers her childhood spent drawing. Her time at the Municipal School of Art reignited her interest in drawing and painting. Her curiosity and desire to transform, improve, and bring creativity to everyday objects, such as clothing, furniture, and home decor, led her to discover silk painting about ten years ago. This marked the beginning of thorough research into silk fabric, dyes, painting techniques, and fixation, and two years later, she founded her silk painting workshop, Arte en Seda.

Artist Statement:

My interest in highlighting the beauty of the everyday leads me to the need to express it in my artistic works. The connection between nature and human values, understood as importance, respect, and care, creates in me an inner landscape full of images of life and color. The goal is nothing more than the desire to preserve for posterity the beauty of the small things that surround us and that have a short life. I am passionate about expressing my paintings accompanied by engraved and aged backgrounds. The flow of dyes changes the structure of the fabric with each brushstroke in a constant and seductive dialogue between support and artist.
