Ece Afacan

Ece Afacan was born in 1985 in Ankara. She took her first ceramic classes from Prof. Tuğrul Emre Feyzoğlu at Atatürk Cultural Center when she was thirteen years old. At that age, she made pieces designed by herself.

In 2004, she attended the entrance examination for Hacettepe University Fine Arts Faculty. She was one of the fifteen best students in the drawing exam and became the first to enter the ceramic glass department. Graduating in 2008 as the department's top student and the third-ranked in the faculty, her drawings were published in Prof. İnci San's book titled "Education and Museum Seminar."

Her artistic journey continued as she worked with leading figures in various art forms. In 2012, she collaborated with Vladimir Klein, a prominent artist in cold glass sculpture. Subsequently, in 2013, she worked alongside Frantisek Janak and Chad Holliday, both distinguished artists in kiln casting and cold glass sculpture.

Ece Afacan inaugurated her debut exhibition on February 29th at Ankara Kuğulu Ziraat Bank Art Gallery, where one of her drawings and a ceramic glass sculpture were acquired by the Ziraat Bank Special Collection.

Recognized for her talent, she received a scholarship in the summer of 2016 to work with sculptor Petr Stacho. The following years were marked by international accolades, with her winning six awards in Italy during 2017-2018. She was also honored with an invitation to the Venice Biennial of Nations in 2018 and was selected as one of the fifty best artists in Roma that year. Her work gained recognition in New York's most important contemporary book in 2018.

In 2019, she served as an assistant to Frantisek Janak in cold glass sculpture and developed her fused glass bowl collection at Foci Mcga. Her fused glass bowls were exhibited at the Minnesota State Fair.

Continuing her involvement in the art community, in 2021, she presented on "Possibilities for using dichroic glass in fusion technique" at Seres’21 V. International Ceramic, Glass, Enamel, Glaze, and Paint Congress.

Her artistic journey continued to flourish, with four of her ceramic and glass artworks exhibited at the "Carrousel du Louvre- Art Shopping Expo" in Paris, France, with the Artio Gallery in April 2022. Subsequently, two of her artworks were displayed at the European Museum of Modern Art, MEAM, with the Artio Gallery in Barcelona, Spain, in November 2022.

In 2023, Ece Afacan marked her second solo exhibition on February 6th at Ziraat Bank Kuğulu Gallery, where again, one of her drawings and a ceramic glass sculpture were acquired by the Ziraat Bank Special Collection. Moreover, one of her drawings and a ceramic glass sculpture were exhibited at One Art Space Gallery with the Artio Gallery from July 11th to 17th, 2023, in Tribeca, New York.
