Deanne Eccles
Artist Biography:
Deanne Eccles is a dedicated artist whose work emphasizes the profound impact of color and form on the observer. With a BA in Fine Arts, majoring in Painting from Australia, she expanded her artistic perspective through theatre and movement studies. Her multidisciplinary approach culminated in the creation of her unique philosophy, ‘Body Sense Response’ (BSR), within the Colour Field genre. This philosophy is grounded in the idea that slowing down and becoming conscious of how our body responds to our environment allows us to move in unity and receive information beyond our normal awareness.
Eccles furthered her studies in Venice and Switzerland (Goetheanum) in 2005/6, focusing on Goethe's color theory and techniques of color application. Returning to Australia in 2007, she bought a property outside of Melbourne to raise a family while continuing to paint and practice her BSR techniques. Initially participating in local group exhibitions, she reignited her professional commitment in 2017, leading to major solo shows and international exhibitions.
Her work is held in the collections of Latrobe University, and she continues to train with highly respected butoh dancers and directors, influencing her artistic practice to this day.
Artist Statement:
"We are moving too quickly upon this planet," states Eccles. "When we slow down and become conscious of how our body responds to our environment, we move in unity, and receive information beyond our normal awareness." Eccles’ intention is for the emphasis of form to be born from color, creating a sensory impact on the onlooker. Her color field spatial arrangements, informed by over two decades of multi-disciplinary study, embody her unique philosophy of ‘Body Sense Response’ (BSR).
