Anna Gigon
Ana Gigon spent her childhood and part of her youth in Poland and now divides her time between Switzerland and France. Growing up in the studio of a painter who was a close family friend, she was immersed in the world of art from a young age, and painting quickly became an essential part of her life. Alongside her passion for art, she pursued studies at Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań, Poland, where she focused on art history, philosophy, pedagogy, and the management of cultural institutions. For the past seven years, Ana has devoted herself exclusively to painting.
A significant portion of her work is figurative, exploring the connection between space and femininity. Ana creates images that leave the psychology of her subjects behind, allowing viewers to interpret the narrative for themselves. The canvas becomes a playground where the interactions between the body and its surroundings act as symbols, inviting open interpretation. Painting outdoors has been a humbling experience for her, a practice influenced by Marc Dalessio, a master of landscape painting who strives to "let nature repaint itself without any obvious intrusion of personality or ego."
More recently, abstraction has taken on a central role in Ana's artistic practice, marking a new chapter in her work. She now translates mental images swiftly and instinctively, freeing both her mind and gaze from the control of hand and brush. Inspired by techniques akin to automatic writing, she explores the relationship between space, color, and perception, tapping into the personal and sensitive experiences of her life. This approach allows her to access more intimate frequencies of expression, offering a deeper connection to her inner world.
